Policing the Big Gig

Today’s big gig at Lancashire County Cricket Club’s Old Trafford ground is taking – 27 May 2017 - place with increased security following Monday’s terrorist attack.

 

The gig features Blossoms, Cabbage and is headlined byThe Courteeners

 

Superintendent Chris Hill, said: ‘Our thoughts remain with all those affected by the horrific events in Manchester on Monday.

 

‘We have been working closely with the staff and security team at Emirates Old Trafford, Trafford Council, and the event organisers, and coming together in partnership to ensure the smooth and safe running of this event.

 

‘A significant number of officers are at the concert, including some armed officers, who will be monitoring the streets around the venue, the Metrolink stations and the stadium itself. Lancashire Cricket Club have also increased the number of stewards for the concert to provide the utmost protection for fans.

 

‘There are additional security checks taking place. Everyone will be thoroughly searched before going into the venue and they have asked for people not to bring bags with them to avoid any delays.

 

‘I want to send out a clear message to everyone that we will not let these atrocities stop us from enjoying the things that mean the most to us. We must stand together, remain vigilant and live our lives as normal.

 

‘I would also like to ask the public for their support and vigilance and want to stress that if you see anything that causes you concern or raises your suspicions do not hesitate to call the Anti-Terrorist Hotline - 0800 789 321 - or in an emergency 999.
