Batons Ready

A small crop of what was otherwise a pretty rubbish photo - the sort you tend to take a lot of when your pulse is racing, the adrenalin is kicking in, and your mates are about to get a right kicking...

The cop on the right is demonstrating the 'baton push' pose, best deployed in lines to provide an assertive and somewhat threatening barrier to drive back crowds. The officer on the left, meanwhile, is demonstrating the classic 'beanfield' grip, best deployed when you want to smash some smelly hippy's head in.

In august 2007, people from all over the UK gathered to protest plans to add a third runway to heathrow airport. Heathrow already produces more CO2 than most countries, and adding more flights at a time when climate change threatens the entire planet is nothing short of madness.

We were joined by locals from the village of Sipson, which is due to disapear under the new runway, with little compensation or consideration for the displaced residents.
