To get to the shops from the camp, you had to wander through two police cordons, be glared at from passing vans, and occasionally be subjected to a stop and search. It was all very intimidating and certainly put me off doing anything overly suspicious or illegal.
So I was quite suprised when I was standing at the shops one evening and my sister wandered up from the direction of the camp like this. There was an awkward silence before I asked gently what she was up to. "I'm cold" she said. "Why?"
In august 2007, people from all over the UK gathered to protest plans to add a third runway to heathrow airport. Heathrow already produces more CO2 than most countries, and adding more flights at a time when climate change threatens the entire planet is nothing short of madness.
We were joined by locals from the village of Sipson, which is due to disapear under the new runway, with little compensation or consideration for the displaced residents.
