Egyptian Mud Brick and Wooden Mold Form

Ancient Egyptian mud brick mold. This wooden brick form was used to create sun-dried bricks from the clay-rich mud of the Nile, often mixed with straw. Working as a team, two workers could create up to 6,000 bricks in a single day.

This brick mold dates from the 18th Dynasty of the New Kingdom, and is marked with the cartouche of Thutmose III, the "Napoleon of Egypt".

Behind is a mud brick made from clay and straw, from the Ramesseum in Thebes (modern Luxor), from the reign of Ramesses II (Ramesses the Great) of the 19th Dynasty.
