Alex Theatre box office. Note the curved roof and the door in the back.

Originally the Alexander Theater, the awesome Alex was built in 1925 as a typically opulent vaudeville and movie palace. It was designed by Charles R. Selkirk and Arthur G. Lindley. You pass through this entrance into a huge old-style forecourt, and finally into a flamboyant auditorium with the time's typical movie-palace mix of Egyptian and Greek architectural motifs..

The Alex was rescued by the city of Glendale, and restored in the 1980s as part of the Brand Boulevard revitalization. It is now a major cultural venue for this part of L.A..
