C2025_A6_LEMMON_V2

On October 24th, 2025, I made my way to a remote dark site, eager to capture data on the comet C/2025 A6 Lemmon. The comet's position—24° above the nearly Western horizon, its motion strikingly swift against the backdrop of the night sky.

Achieving polar alignment, focusing on the comet, and getting my guiding system ready during the twilight hours proved to be quite a challenge. I had grown accustomed to using my EdgeHD 8 telescope, and switching back to faster optics required some adjustment on my part. Yet, with determination and careful calibration of a few variables, I was able to make it work.

Framing the comet was a particular hurdle with the ZWO AsiAIR, which consumed valuable moments, adding to my anticipation. It was a test of patience, as I worked to position C/2025 A6 Lemmon just right in the frame, despite a growing sense of anxiousness throughout the process.

To my surprise, wispy clouds appeared, as if they too wanted to join the celestial show. Unfortunately, they floated through the very section of the sky where the comet was located, presenting yet another layer of complexity to my imaging session.

For this particular observation, I chose to use my 400mm wide-field telescope paired with a full-frame color camera. This combination enabled me to capture more of the surrounding field, with a particular focus on highlighting the comet's captivating tail. The choice of equipment reflected my desire to showcase the beauty and drama of this transient visitor to our night sky.

Processing comet data is yet another skill I need to improve upon, as they say, practice, practice, practice!
