The closest MRT stop to where I was staying. Silom is pretty well known for... what Thailand is known for (by most foreigners): go-go bars, clubs, etc. Bangkok has two metro systems. The MRT, which does have a number of separate lines that go throughout the city, and the BTS or Skytrain, which only has two lines, and many of the stops on both of these two systems are shared. The locals don't really use them, so people (even cab drivers) are largely ignorant of where the stations are. So the mass transit didn't do much for Bangkok's reputation as having some of the worst traffic in the world. It's still there.
