Bon appétit in any language.
My friend, Joy, totally in her element as a hostess and gourmet cook. Joy wears many hats (wife, mother, grandmother, friend, gourmet cook, artist, interior designer, renovator, etc.) and does so with elegance and style. Here you see her in the kitchen of her 100 year old home.
Joy and her husband, Dan, also a gourmet cook and baker of wondrous breads in his spare time, have restored the home to its former beauty. Said restoration was made easier by the fact that the former owners never threw anything away. All sorts of original lights fixtures, hardware and windows were found in the basement. Every room of the upper three floors of living space is beautifully furnished and lovingly finished in a style true to the period in which the home was built and they have often opened the home to public tours to benefit a worthy cause.
On this day Joy and Dan hosted a brunch to honor the president of the Association of Builders and Contractors, who, with his wife, was visiting from Virginia - and he had the nerve to show up in his Virginia Tech shirt! No problem, Joy responded by playing the Nebraska fight song!! What these photos don't show you is that Joy had just returned the evening before from Des Moines where she is deeply immersed in renovating a second home that she purchased because they both travel there often for business and family reasons. The next morning she was "cool as a cucumber" in her role as chef and hostess.
I want to be like her when I grow up!
