Athvi Amary Juloos Malad Malwani 2009
Today the Shias celebrate Athvi the last segment of Moharam, which brings two month eight days of mourning to an end..Last year I shot the Athvi celebrations at Govandi, but I took a break from Govandi and the Hallauris..I decided to shoot the Amary Juloos at Malwani Malad , organized by Advocate Anwar Hussain Saab and his Anjuman.
There were 3 camels carrying the Amary , 5 Zuljanas , a Taboot and Alams that headed towards a short distance, there was hardcore kama matam and zanjir matam, I was quite tired and left by 8.30 pm..
All this was preceded by a Majlis at their Imambada , there was a huge crowd, men women and children as Malad West has a sizable Shia population.
My friend Mamdi was decorating the Zuljanas.
However there is nothing bigger than the Athvi in Lucknow or that of Mehmoodabad,, is all I can say, yet the Mumbaikar Shias leave no stone unturned to make their Athvi a day to remember..
There was a Athvi juloos in Mumbra too I am told I have never shot that as yet.
Habib Nasser my friend has gone to shoot the Athvi Juloos at Jaunpur..he will shoot the Navi tomorrow at Makbara Lucknow.
Today the Shias will shed their black clothes of mourning, pack them away till next Moharam, the blades , the kama all the inflicting instruments of pain, will be put back in the cupboards.
Tomorrow the Shias will celebrate the Mother of All Idds ..Idd E Zehra or 9 Rabillawal or Navi.
Navi is huge in Lucknow , at Kazmain at Nakhas and at Makbara..
Effigy of the killers of Imam Hussain, the enemies of Shiasm will be burnt, stoned , kids will pee on their remains..there will be Mushairas, and the Shias will let lose a volley of abuses on the killers of Imam Hussain.
The ladies of the house will cook Gul Gules and distribute it in the neighborhood...
In Mumbai it will be another day as usual..
