Haystack
Day 9: Haystack Rock, Cannon Beach, Oregon.
I guess I would describe myself photographically as predominantly a coastal landscape photographer, and I'm telling you this as background information as to how I came to be in this place to take this shot.
This year my wife and I could not decide where to go on holiday and it took a long time and a lot of failed suggestions before we decided on a road trip starting in Seattle, heading around the Washington State coast, down the Oregon coast and back inland via Crater Lake and the Cascade range of mountains including Mt St Helens. It was my suggestion in the end and my suggestion arose after seeing shots of this particular place on flickr and I thought I would really like to go there and capture some shots of this place. I didn't leave myself a lot of opportunity though, just one night and I got the impression that the Washington and Oregon coast get more than their fair share of cloudy and inclement weather. Any I was lucky, in our 3 week road trip we had only a few dull days and one day of snow and the rest were clear blue skies and gorgeous sunsets. Long way to go for a shot, I know, but we didn't have any other better ideas, and it turned out to be a fabulous vacation. I suspect I'll use flickr again next year to help plan any trips away.
I'm hoping I might have a few more shots to share once I've worked my way through them all.
