Transdev York 727
One of two E200MMCs introduced in September 2018, YX18KZG (727) is seen on its way out of Naburn as it works the 10:15 York-Drax 42.
The present iteration of the 42 came about in October 2017 when the previously separate Selby-Cawood-York (42) and Selby-Drax (8) routes amalgamated. Prior to the sudden demise of Utopia Coaches that August, the Cawood route had operated at a minimum of a bus per hour, provided by the 420 between York and Selby, and 422 between York and Pontefract. The 8, meanwhile, offered a bus every two hours. The fall of Utopia left a gap and, although Transdev stepped in on the 8, the Cawood route was left to an in-house NYCC minibus operating as route 426 several times per day as well as an Arriva peak working between Stillingfleet and York operating as an X26 in the morning and 26 in the evening. The 42 offers a bus every ninenty minutes, providing Drax with an increased frequency and new links to York, and the villages of Cawood and Stillingfleet with something approaching the service levels they enjoyed when Utopia were still around. Saturday evening and Sunday buses operating between Selby and York as a 42S were introduced under Arriva in May 2018 with funding via the Parish Transport Initiative.
Following reliability issues with ageing MPDs, Transdev are presently deploying two leased E200MMCs with branding for the 42. These carry the 'York & Country' motif which was created to cover the work salvaged from the closure of Stephensons in January 2018, rather than the 'Little Explorers' branding used on the 22 which the 42 initially was brought under.
