SkillsUSA, hosted the 3rd Annual Veterans’ Luncheon

On Friday, January 15, 2016, Thomas A. Edison Career and Technical Academy American Spirit Group for SkillsUSA, hosted the 3rd Annual Veterans’ Luncheon. The Veterans’ luncheon was an annual event held in Edison Academy’s Tea Room and it provided the opportunity for the students to show their patriotism for people who served in the armed services. SkillsUSA members greeted the Veterans as they entered. Students at this event mingled, and played board games with the veterans; and the veterans, in turn, shared their experiences with the students. To express their gratitude students presented each veteran with a certificate that read, “The willingness of America’s Veterans to sacrifice for our country has earned them our lasting gratitude,“ which is a quote from Jeff Miller. An added component to the program was the work of the culinary arts students who planned cooked a four course meal for the veterans. The Edison Academy American Spirit Group for SkillsUSA has a mission to provide community service and educational programs to students, parents, and schools.

Quote from Angelynn Collazo “It was so much fun to play scrabble with the veterans, they were still sharp”

Quote from Alexia Suazo “I felt really honored to be in the presence of those who fought for our country, especially Mr. Bowles, he said he cannot wait to come again next year.”

Quote from Mrs. Hudeen, SkillsUSA Advisor. “It was great to see how the SkillsUSA American Spirit Group has developed a relationship with the Veteran of the Menlo Park Veterans facility,”

Quote from Ms. Bey, Principal. “I was privileged and honored to see our students dedicate their time and energy to those who have tirelessly given to our society.”
