C&NW eastbound local freight with 29 cars passes "California Junction" @1413 behind two GP15-1 (4424….) This junction is on the route that connects the Chicago-Omaha mainline at Missouri Valley with the Union Pacific's mainline west of Omaha at Fremont, Nebraska. It had developed into a shortcut without the need to pass through Omaha, for an increasing number of high priority freight that was interchanged between C&NW and the U.P. The former Chicago StPaul Minneapolis & Omaha (the "Omaha") came down from the Twin Cities and connected here with a wye, and it had the interlocking shown here. I think that at this time the route from "MoValley" to Fremont was still unsignalled; soon it was put into CTC operation. Between Sioux City and Omaha there were actually two C&NW routes on either side of the Missouri River and maybe the one on the Nebraska side was the Omaha and this side was original C&NW. With the NorthWestern, it was often hard to tell as they had a LOT of future bike trails.
