The Depths of Bravery

4/100 of my year-long self portrait project. ☺️

This photo was sort of a happy fluke that turned out far better than I imagined, and it was an extremely rushed one-take only situation in the midst of a truly epic rainstorm. 😂

@kristopherandres and I started hiking up here in the late evening during a light drizzle, which of course turned into a heavy downpour right when I found this scene. So we hid under a rock for half an hour, and began to realize this was no passing rainshower… it was here to stay.

So I decided to be brave. Well, more likely I decided to put my camera in the way of danger by setting it up in the downpour. 😅 I set everything up as quickly as I could, threw on the gold dress, ran out here while my time-lapsing camera took precisely 7 shots, ran back, threw my soaked dress over the already soaked camera (which miraculously was totally fine), packed up and we ran back down the mountain to shelter in our van and dry everything out for the next 48 hours. 😂

Throughout the week, we tried going back to this spot 3 more times - all of which the conditions didn’t quite line up for what I wanted. Only after did I realize - I already had a winning shot from the very first rainy attempt! I hadn’t bothered to look at the first photos because I assumed they were too rushed and rainy to turn out, but actually, this one was better than I had planned. The rain clouds added the perfect depth/mystery to the canyon that I couldn’t capture otherwise. And I actually had a decent pose out of those quickly time-lapsed 7 shots. 😂 A rarity!
