A Large Bite to Chew 3I9173
Nature isn’t kind. Nature is indifferent. It’s indifferent to joy, sadness, pain, laughter, love, and passion. Nature isn’t fair. This is the wild and untamed nature of nature. The creatures that spend their entire lives as one of nature’s creations are in large part, the similar. One trait sets humankind apart. It’s not intellect since this debatable characteristic may well lead us down a path of complete and utter destruction. No, I believe that our one distinct and redeeming value is our ability to be kind. Although other animals can behave kindly on occasion, humankind has the ability to “consciously” make the effort to be kind. It’s a large bite to chew. Consciously making the effort to put aside our hatred and dislikes; putting down our guns and weapons; setting aside our misled assumptions about cultures and religions foreign to us. It means making conscious decisions to include others dissimilar to us and making them feel at home rather than at odds. We have the capacity to do so. Whether this is our nature or, as some might argue, a God given trait, doesn’t really matter. What really matters is our capacity and willingness to do so. There are those who govern and manipulate the masses. They are, in large part, a loss. They seek money and power with a hunger that is insatiable. But what about you and I? Can we muster the strength to exercise the one truly human trait that sets us apart and distinguishes us from the rest of nature? I’m not certain we have evolved far enough to master that task. I hope I am proven wrong. #Coyote #nature #kindness
