319/365 - So Fine, and Yet So Terrible
“It's so fine, and yet so terrible, to stand in front of a blank canvas.” - Paul Cézanne
Something a bit different today (for me, anyway.) Some of the kids’ paintbrushes, in a vase, shot against a blank ”canvas” (OK, white poster board) with high key lighting and a shallow DoF. I played with a few other additions to the background, to give it some color or texture, but my eye kept coming back to this one, mostly because of the blank canvas effect of the stark white backdrop. As we get towards the end game of my 365, I keep having those blank canvas, what-am-I-going-to-shoot-today moments, punctuated by the occasional "aha!", and this felt right. Remembering the Cézanne quote really put a bow on it.
Edit: And, right after posting this, I go off and read today's Oatmeal comic, which touches on several of the things that I've pondered over the course of this project. Thankfully, the comment threads here usually skew positive.
Nikon D7000 w/NIkkor 50mm ƒ/1.8 prime, 1/250s @ ƒ/1.8, ISO100. Two SB-700s, both at 85mm zoom, 1/40 power, both firing through white umbrellas, one at top right and one at bottom left.
