We sit in an outside part of a coffee shop, a chest-high planter full of thyme to our right. We look along a row of shops, the footpath in from of them shaded by a continuous verandah. We see a chemist, a fish and chip shop, a bar, another cafe and a newsagency. There is a car park next to the footpath, and behind the cars a tall gum tree shades an area for public seating.
