The John Farrow Salute

As a tribute to a major force in main line steam touring, John Farrow, who died recently, the Railway Touring Company organised a main line tour in his memory. This involved Bulleid 'Merchant Navy' pacific 35028 'Clan Line' on a duty away from its usual 'Belmond Pullman' workings, and also saw an unusual pathing down the fast line from Woking to Basingstoke. Here the train is seen powering away from its stop at Woking, at St. John's. Despite the gentle cimb, it was reported to have reached around 80mph by Fleet. The train ran from Victoria to Sherborne and back.
