Buttermarket car park
This is the underground car park for the Buttermarket shopping centrre.
One night in 2007, when the car park and shops were closed, the lady in charge left her office to empty a coin machine. She returned quickly to the office without emptying it when she sensed movement. Anxiously she rang her boss, who came over within ten minutes. She let him into the premises and when they looked around, but no source of movement could be found. Locking up, he said he would ask to see the CCTV footage the next morning. Imagine their horror at seeing the shadows on the wall either side of the machine moving away with frenetic activity on the time-coded video. The boss said he did not know what to think. There were no windows, trees or moving lamps down there or anything else to explain the phenomenon. Deciding on practicality, he announced that no lone worker would be put in that such a poor situation to handle cash and would ensure a second member of staff would be on hand in future.
