Side by Side

Third from the left image was taken with a prime lens, a Canon 200mm F2.8 L at F8. The second from the left with a Canon 70-200 F4 IS L lens. the one on the right was taken by a Canon 70-200 F2.8 IS II L lens.

All Canon pictures were taken at F8 and ISO 100. You can clearly see how they perform.

All images except the one on the left were taken using a Canon 5D MK II mounted on a tripod, using a remote cable release. The one on the left was taken on a tripod, but no cable release. You can't use one.

Needless to say I am keeping my old, second hand bought, 200 Prime. But the 70 200 F2,.8 MK II L is also a very good Telephoto lens which I am also keeping.

All were crops from the centre of an image.

I just added my Panasonic compact camera for comparison on the left. A good little camera, particularly for close ups, but for telephoto ?

Not too fair on the Panasonic because there is no F8, and I could not easily set it to the equivalent to 200mm. There is too much to do in life to waste the time trying.
