End of Day at Mammoth Hot Creek
I hesitated to post an image that I did not envision this way; but this trip was if nothing else, very memorable. I planned to do some night photography during this trip, but man-made light seemed to be present at every location I chose. I arrived at Convict Lake just after midnight. As I was driving into the parking area, two mountain lions approached my vehicle, one on each side. I stopped and put the car in park, and watched both lions until they disappeared into the brush. That was the first time I got to see mountain lions in the wild.
As for this shot, I was shooting toward the west-southwest. The sky to the east featured an amazing thunderstorm, while beautiful sunset color filled the northwestern sky. I thought that someone shooting at nearby Mono Lake this evening had an opportunity to photograph something very special. I concentrated mainly on this scene, attempting to capture an image that I could process to show the different tones and scene detail.
