Gull Study
by DavidLSI
I created the “Gull Study” series as a naive expressionist exploration of form and color, capturing the essence of gulls in motion with a childlike simplicity and spontaneity. I use watercolor and ink on paper, Acrylic on board and photographic expression, to create a fluidity that mirrors the graceful flight of these lake birds. Each piece is imbued with a sense of movement and freedom, while the varied palettes evoke different moods and atmospheres, reflecting perhaps the changing skies and lake over which these birds soar.
I attempt to demonstrated a sensitivity in rendering the gulls with minimal strokes and subtle shading, creating a sense of motion and vitality that place the viewer in that world. The contrast between the light and dark tones, the warm and cool colors, and the smooth and rough textures creates a visual harmony and balance that draws the viewer’s attention. The “Gull Study” series is a testament to my passion for capturing the beauty and diversity of nature.
Love to Lake Michigan and the west shore views.
