Mission Espada Bells (San Antonio, Texas)
Founded in 1690 in East Texas as San Francisco de Tejas, this it the oldest of the missions in San Antonio. It was relocated here in 1731 and renamed the Mission of San Francisco de la Espada. It is a part of the San Antonio Missions National Historical Park.

These outposts were established by Catholic religious orders to spread Christianity among the local natives. The missions formed part of a colonization system that stretched across the Spanish northern frontier in the 17th, 18th, and 19th centuries.
