The Astoria/Megler bridge crosses from Oregon to Washington state fourteen miles upriver from the mouth of the Columbia River. The bridge is 4.1 miles long, consisting of one lane each direction. Opening in 1966 at a cost of $24 million ($123 million in 2023 dollars), the bridge is 200 feet high at the southern end to provide clearance for ship navigation up the Columbia River. The bridge was paid for by tolls, which were paid off two years early, ending in December 1993.
