Saras Cranes with their chick
Had my friends Kesava and Shreeram not kept their eyes peeled, we wouldn't have found this Saras Crane family while speeding on the highway. The Saras are never an easy find and to find them in the company of their young is a privilege. They were feeding at an agricultural land and most probably they stay there; since the chick hadn't fledged yet.
Quite a vulnerable spot for these birds since if they ever get spooked and fly away, it's curtains for the chick. This was one of those occasions when we decided against being patient. We could have waited for these birds to get closer and we perhaps would have had some smashing shots of the cranes. However, we had to place the safety of the chick over our greed for photographs! We couldn't risk scaring the parents, lest they abandon the young bird. So that's where we left it.
