Above Out Sleets
I was following the National Trust Malham Tarn boundary wall between Fountains Fell and Darnbrook Fell. Snow had drifted up to five feet deep in places, and almost submerging this gate.
A thick crust had formed upon the land due to the sub zero temperatures. Normally this walk is a drag through peat bog, saturated mosses and oozing vegetationary mud - but on this occasion, progress was much easier. This reinforces my theory that midwinter is a good time to visit the more inaccesable parts of the Yorkshire Dales.
