Romano-Egyptian mummy portrait of a bearded Roman soldier

One of two mummy portraits from the same tomb - the other being a beautiful woman with stylish jewelry (British Museum inv. 1939,0324.211) - the orientation of his studded sword belt indicates that he’s a soldier of low rank.

 

Found in Kom el-Kharaba el-Kebir (ancient Rubaiyat), Egypt
