I had the incredible opportunity of visiting Death Valley this winter. And just two days before arrival, a major thunderstorm dropped a large amount of rain throughout the park. Although this is great news for the vegetation, the news was not well-received considering I would be visiting the Playa. Notwithstanding the risk of not being able to walk on the Playa due to mud, I persisted with my plans of visiting the site. I pushed the visit to the end of the week, so that the mud would have a chance to dry. To my good fortunate the warm sun over the week dried the ground, even so much to the point there was no trace of mud or water anywhere in the immediate area. And even better, I was treated with an incredible light display!
