One of the young surfers out practicing after the storm this week...the waves were averaging 8-10 feet....very decent for NC surf. At one point i counted 25 surfers out there....today there were at least 30 to the left of the pier...then the WRV Outer Banks Pro Surf Competition on the right side, were pro surfers from all over the world competing...and then another 30+ surfers out south of them! The crazy surf continued today...3 days after the storm.
I am learning to shoot them and have been having a very fun time, as well as learning a lot and enjoying the amazing styles and grace of these surfers young and old. THIS particular fellow caught my eye. He has a quiet confidence that was a stark contrast to his youth....he confidently caught every wave he tried for AND rode it all the way in to the shoreline, even becoming engulfed in the huge billows of foam, only to emerge from them still on his board as he made his way to the shore! It was like he was permanently attached to his board. i was beyond impressed, and would love to give him the set of shots i have of him! i hope that at some point, someone will recognize him from my posts on local FB pages for the towns on the Banks so i can send them to him!
Two or three more days of competition...i plan to attend the finals for one last round of shots. Will get another shot in mid Sept, when another Pro competition will take place here, i am loving the challenge of this new type of shooting for me!
