A light in the forest

Last night on the Knowledge Network I watched a documentary on Ansel Adams. I have been hearing about him ever since I joined Flickr in March 2008, but am embarrassed to say I'd never seen his work or knew anything about him~except that everyone admired him as one of the greatest photographers. I was, of course, extremely impressed by his artistic vision and the power of his photographs. Even more by his ground-breaking artistry in the darkroom. But I didn't realize how much his photography had affected people.....to the extent that a Park was created to protect his beloved wilderness, and a mountain (how he loved his mountains!) named after him as well. And the cumbersome, heavy gear he had to carry with him as he set out on those arduous treks and mountain climbing expeditions! Huge cameras, tripods and glass plates.....glass plates !!!! ....backpacking into the wilderness!

I wasn't surprised to learn he had an epiphany as he communed with Nature in the wild.....that's why I love my own wild places and love to go to them both with close friends and alone. I get so many insights into the relationship between Earth and man, God and man. And become aware of man's responsibility to cherish and protect the wonderful Garden of Eden we live in. It was that......is still that in places......must become that again. I am encouraged to believe in myself again, to believe in my own artistic vision, to believe one person CAN make a difference!

Join me, my photographer friends ~ show and tell the world of our love for the Earth; spread the word that we MUST love her, cherish her, heal her. Anything is possible....IF we believe !
