The launch of Save the Children Fund
The launch of the Save the Children Fund at the Royal Albert Hall in May 1919 gained a lot of public attention – both positive and negative. Some people objected to the idea of feeding ‘enemy children’ in Europe, whilst others believed reports of famine to be exaggerated. Speaking to the crowd, Eglantyne Jebb emphasised the charity's non-partisan principles: ‘We have only one rule, we shall help them whatever their country, whatever their religion’.
