I've Known Rivers
The Bear River splits around a small island of hardwood trees, comes together again on the other side, and resumes its course. On one side the little island, the river moves smooth and quiet in the morning sunlight. On the other side, it crashes angrily through a shady spot full of rocks. This scene feels like a metaphor for my recent life.
Recently, our long time band lost two of its members. This past weekend we came together with many old friends and memorialized them with a two day musical event in Arnold, CA. It wasn't exactly a Viking's send off, but it was poignant none-the-less. As I say goodbye to old friends, I eagerly await the arrival of a new one. Today is the due date for our first grand baby. The cycle of life rolls on.
Like the river, life is always changing and always moving forward--through dangerous rapids and smooth flowing quiet spots it splashes on. There is beauty to be found in all of it--if you dare to look.
