What's SUP?
SUP (Stand Up Paddling) is all the rage around our local moorage. Paddleboarders flock to the shore by the houseboat moorage for classes, and even kick back in the shallows for midday siesta and sunburns. I can't say I "get it" (I like to cruise with some gear onboard--usually, a dog or two, camera bag, lunch, waterbottle or more, maybe even an outboard motor!) But it's old school island-style, and they do add to the tapestry of river living. I expect they'll disappear like the summer sunshine, and craigslist will fill with board ads when the leaves start to fall. When the prices get low enough, who knows? I might even get tempted--but I doubt it. If I want to stand up and paddle, I'd have to overcome a lifetime of boat etiquette, where "sit down" was the first rule I learned.
