The village of Hornby, Lancashire
Our holiday home in Lancashire is near the village of Capernwray, a few miles from the border with Cumbria (though the south of it has now become Westmorland again!) The nearest town, with its three large supermarkets, is Carnforth, about five miles away. If Judy wants to do a major shop she'll go to one of these. But if we simply want a few things we'll avoid the town centre traffic and drive through the country lanes to the village of Hornby, which is about the same distance. The little village shop seems to stock virtually everything - though prices are obviously a bit higher - while across the road from there is a delightful cafe which also acts as a part-time post office. It has become a favourite place for a coffee and a mid-day snack.
In the distance we can see the northern edge of the Forest of Bowland, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. It is mostly in Lancashire though part of it was formerly in the West Riding of Yorkshire. Part of that is now in North Yorkshire. I do wish they wouldn't mess around with county boundaries!
