High tide at Mousehole, Cornwall
The charming little fishing village of Mousehole, on the Penwith peninsula a couple of miles to the west of Penzance, is one of my favourite places in Cornwall. I quite often take a short winter break in the Old Coastguard Hotel, which is the white building on the far right of the picture. Mousehole was one of the places invaded and put to the torch by a Spanish raiding party in the mid-1590s. Neighbouring Newlyn was also burnt to the ground. The defeat of the Spanish Armada in 1588 was not the total success that many people thought. And now they still take "our" fish. (Only joking!)
