In bulbous and tuberous plants, a distinction is made between summer flowering bulbs , such as gladiolus, dahlia, lily and begonia. These are planted in the spring, and spring bloomers, such as the tulip, hyacinth, daffodil, grape, and crocus, which are planted in the fall. The flowers are removed from the grower after flowering so that the bulb can create food reserves. After all, the bigger the bulb, the bigger the flowers you get in the garden or in the vase. The bulbs are harvested about two to three months after the 'head'. They are then dried, cleaned and sorted by size. The large bulbs (the salable sizes) are separated from the smaller bulbs (planting material).
