YAMAKASA FESTIVAL

"Osshoi! Osshoi!" These opulent floats weighing 1 ton are carried by 30 men at a time. three hundred to six hundred other men run alongside awaiting their turn. A tradition over seven centuries this festival is similar to our disappearing Bayanihan tradition. Filipinos are slowly learning the message of the Yamasaka Festival-Peaceful cooperation can beget progress.

 

博多山笠祭り　福岡

 

「おっしょい！おっしょい！」　

１トンにもなる彩り豊かな山車を約３０人の男衆が交代しながら走り曳き、町ごとにタイムを競い合う。３００人、時には６００人の若者・年寄り・子供が一つの山車に入り混じりふんどし姿で走る走る。７世紀前から始まったと言われるこの祭りは、バヤニハンにも似ている。人々が手を取り合う祭りは、共同作業を忘れつつあるフィリピン人に何か問いかけるものがある。

 

バヤニハン

＝フィリピンの伝統的な結（ゆい）行事。引越しの際、地域の人々が大勢で家ごと持ち上げて移動する。
