Lewis Davis, U.S. Civil War Veteran
Lewis was, first, a member of the 10th New Hampshire Infantry and, second, a member of the 4th Company, 1st Maine Light Artillery (Mounted Artillery). Thereafter he was transferred to the 2nd Battalion Veterans' Reserve Corps, originally known as the Invalid Corps.
The Veteran Reserve Corps was a military reserve organization created within the Union Army to allow partially disabled soldiers or former soldiers to perform light duty, freeing able-bodied soldiers to serve on the front lines (Wikipedia).
Lewis died on 20 June 1867 at the age of 25.
The stone also commemorates his brother Thomas, also a Civil War Veteran.
They are buried in what is known as the Tarlton East Cemetery, Newcastle, New Hampshire.
