The Church of Christ the Cornerstone

The church is 101 feet high [30.8m approx] (to the top of the lantern) while the cross rises a further 18 feet [5.5m approx]. The Cross on top of the lantern is the work of artist/metalsmith Alan Evans of Stroud in Gloucestershire and was placed in position during a special service on Good Friday 29 March 1991 that was attended by over one thousand people - Source: The Church of Christ the Cornerstone website.

The Cross weighs approximately 1.7 tonnes and if you use this link you'll see pictures of it around the time of installation (there's a brilliant one of workmen putting it in place). www.alanrobertevans.co.uk/mkthumbs.htm

City Church Cross, 1991. This simple cross can be viewed from 360º and consists of 8 blades wrapped together with steel. The artist reflects the ecumenical nature of the church - ‘the coming together of different denominations, the binding together of the elements whilst still retaining their individual identity. - Source: MK Arts Guide 2012.
