works in progress (12x12” >)
I’ve always had this weird rule that every little scrap of paper within a collage had to have individual merit, a pleasing shape... something special about it all on it’s own in order to be granted ‘ingredient’ status. However, I was really taken by David Carson’s latest book on collage where I noticed a lot of my favorite works consisted entirely of (what I probably would’ve considered) unattractive or unappealing individual pieces. As an exercise, I decided to whip up a batch in that same spirit... made up entirely of ingredients I would’ve normally rejected and put in the ‘Nah’ pile.
