Friday Night, Charley’s Apartment, 9:25 PM

 

Candy: *admires Christmas tree* “This looks really pretty. Not a lot of people use real trees anymore, but you can’t beat pine fresh from an actual pine.”

 

Charley: *signs/says* “Thanks. Most of the credit goes to Molly. Diego and I just put stuff where she tells us. And I don’t have room in the apartment to store an artificial tree year-round. Actually, this is my first year decorating at all.”

 

Emma: *looks up from the Christmas card display, surprised* “Whit? You donna normally decorate?”

 

Charley: *sad expression flits across face* “No.”

 

Emma (concernedly): “Want tae talk aboot it?”

 

Charley: “No.”

 

Emma: *reaches over, squeezes Charley’s arm* “Okay.”

 

Yuri: *walks in from kitchen, carrying boxes of cookies* “Dessert is served! I decided to go with a classic cookie sampler. Charley, I included lightly sweetened peanut butter ones for you, since cookies, in general, are not to your taste.”

 

Charley (touched): “Thanks, Yuri. That was nice of you.”

 

Kumi: *follows closely behind, carrying two freshly opened bottles of wine* “Booze is also served. Again. Hope y’all can hold your liquor. I don’t feel like holding back anyone’s hair tonight.”

 

Molly: *gestures to her short hair, meaningful look*

 

Kumi: “Point taken, Twiggy. You have my blessing to drink until your stomach mutinies. Just do not puke on my shoes. Aim for Charley’s. Hers put the ‘ugh’ in Uggs.”

 

Everyone: *settles around the coffee table*

 

Charley: “You ever gonna get tired of hating on my clothes?

 

Kumi: “Never. Low-hanging fruit’s the juiciest.”
