While the Eurofighter Tempest is a swing-role fighter, the Tempest F3 is more specifically an air superiority fighter with secondary air-to-ground capabilities. Its main weapon for air-to-air combat is the new Meteor II BVRAAM missile, with a range of 120+ km. NDC’s EF Tempests usually also carry two AIM-9X Sidewinder for within-visual-range engagements, in addition to the Mauser BK-27 27mm revolver cannon. The EF Tempest F3 is also fully capable of carrying all air-to-surface weapons in NDC’s arsenal, although the aircraft needs an additional laser designator pod to target laser-guided munitions independently.
Shown here is a EF Tempest F3 carrying no less than four of the newly developed "Durendal" long-range cruise missile. The Durendal missile is a joint venture between Kongsberg Defence and Saab Bofors Dynamics.
