Hartford Union Station with a view from the rear car vestibule of a Northbound Amtrak train that is departing the station platform at Hartford, Connecticut, Summer 1971, courtesy Paul Coe. In this view you can see that all four platform tracks are still in place, however, today with the new double tracking of the Springfield Line, Hartford's Union Station has only one platform track. Gee, what can go wrong with that? When looking directly back behind the train and down the tracks you can clearly see the State Capitol Building. The tracks to and from this station enter and depart on a viaduct with the tracks situated on the second floor of the station. The two tracks seen in the foreground are the Springfield Line that runs form New Haven to Springfield. The tracks on the other side of the station are the platform tracks that connect with the Midland Division and the Highland Division. About one mile North of the station is the Hartford Railroad Yard, where connections to other branch lines can be made.
Paul Coe (noted railfan photographer) provided me with this photo as a 3 x 5 inch print that I scanned to produce this photo image.
