Design Principles - Sequence

The human brain is wired to recognize faces quickly. This design has the audience focus on Mickey's face first, utilizing this neurological setting and compounding it by having smooth textures on his face in contrast with the lined and geometric patterns of the background. We follow the form of his anatomy to either the raised sleeve segueing into the castle silhouette via the black shading, or up the arm to the gloved hand, whose finger is at the epicenter of the pinwheel rays. From there the eye is drawn to the text at the top.

This poster was part of a 2013 calendar collection from the Disneyland Resort. Photograph by me.
