Gambel's Quail

A lifer for me. We really enjoy visiting Valley of Fire State Park about an hour outside of Las Vegas, Nevada. The park is rich in scenery, has Native petroglyphs and also has a surprising diversity of wildlife given its desert terrain. We had just stopped at the visitor's center which is like a little oasis with flowers, trees, shrubs and cacti. As my wife went inside to look around, I grabbed my camera to see what birds were there. I heard a commotion in the thickets and saw a drift of these cuties rummaging around for berries. I was able to get some of the rocks in the background which made for the beautiful bokeh colors.
