With its exceptionally well-preserved reliefs the Apedemak Temple is a superb example of Early Meroitic architecture and art, religious thought and practice. The reliefs on the outer sidewalls of the temple depict Arnakhamani and a prince, Arqa, protected by the goddess Isis holding a palm of eternity above him, venerating a succession of deities - six gods on the southern wall (Apedemak, Amun of Thebes, Sebiumeker, Arensnuphis, Horus and Thoth)
