Fritillaria and Friend
Last year I planted several bulbs of the Snakes-head fritillaria, believing (according to the packaging) that they were all the traditional pink/red colour - so I was amused to see this one appear recently. Although a completely white variant 'Alba' exists, this particular flower seems to have characteristics of both the regular and white forms - a mutation perhaps? It doesn't seem to matter to the little snail who is happy to feast on either colour (if the damage to some of my other fritillarias offers any evidence). The morning sunshine provides backlight that shows off the translucence of the flower and the snail .
For Looking Close on Friday theme 'Flowers and/or Buds'.
No snails were harmed in the making of this photograph.
