Parnell

A solo IC SD70 splits the 134.7 signals in the small town of Parnell, Illinois with the Clinton-based L585 local. These signals date back to the days of the Green Diamond, the Illinois Central's premier train from Chicago to Saint Louis. Inaugurated in 1936, it was the IC's first streamlined passenger train.

Passenger service on this line ended in 1971 with Amtrak's startup, and the line has been slowly downgraded since Illinois Central's merger with the GM&O in 1972. Despite only one scheduled freight and an occasional grain extra, ABS and CTC islands are still active on a majority of the line between Gilman and Springfield.
