Candy Cane man.

As we fast approach Christmas we see all the usual signs such as Christmas trees, decorations, Santa in shopping centres and let’s not forget the old favourite, candy cane.

Like everything attached to Christmas even the humble candy cane has its origin which dates back to about 1670 when the choirmaster at the Cologne Cathedral disapproved of the noisy children who continually caused a noisy disruption during the Living Creche tradition of Christmas Eve.

So to alleviate the problem he engaged the services of a local candy maker for some ‘sugar sticks’ to assist ease the noise.

The ‘sugar sticks’ are today known as candy canes.

At this year’s Camden Christmas Festival candy canes were evident but in the form of two walking talking candy canes who skilfully manoeuvred their away among the crowds by posing for photos and injecting their own special style to the event.

Unlike their predecessor these candy canes welcomed noisy children as well as noisy adults.
