Knights Hospitaller

Knights Hospitaller, also known as 'Knights of the Order of Saint John of Jerusalem', or 'Knights of the Sovereign Order of Saint John of Jerusalem of Rhodes and of Malta'.

The Order was founded during the late 11th century to protect and care for sick or injured pilgrims to the Holy Land, and later became a religious/military order of knights. The Hospitallers were eventually driven from the Holy Land by Islamic forces, and took up residence on Rhodes, and later on Malta. From these bases they fought fierce and bloody battles over several centuries, against overwhelming odds from Muslim invaders.

The Knights Hospitaller survive to to this day as the Order of St. John, a voluntary group which provides first aid and immediate medical attention to anyone.
